xoops by alexa - a lot of shock and surprise

    Just another FUD!

Did you look at your Website:

    http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/xoops-magazine.com

Now I could write the same here:

I had feared, but the truth suppressed. But now I am really shocked! By coincidence I have tested the tool on www.alexa.com, but I had to find the site at the Page xoops-magazine.com Impression (page views), in traffic and in the ranking extremely abated. Here comes the question of just what the causes might be?

Anyway - some people stopped coming to XOOPS because of the constant fights with the renegades. After they left in December, things are getting better - XOOPS is more friendly, and people are coming back, as this chart shows:

    http://www.quantcast.com/xoops.org/traffic

It will just take us some time to get there, but the positive signs are there.

What are the reasons?. The Xoops history since May 2007: then all good xoopers were courageous for change the project, but all of them were ignored and rejected. The last chapter was that xoopswiki and xoopsaddons (they were great sites) were rejected by the Council (really, for the big boss -phppp- his friend -kris).
He wanted all power and now he has all power, but a lot of the best xooper are out. Look at SF too: all code is made by phppp, there is not Core Dev Team.
    Module repository: simply a mess
Docs: the wiki at xoops.org is a joke.
The problem is that a project is not only code, it is a community. And it is the reason why in two months ImpressCMS has done that Xoops didn´t in one year and continues moving forward quickly.
Just compare both sites in alexa.

Mamba: The general disinterest also affects the partner site. Have you thought about? I see the same figures for other known XOOPS websites.
    Check: myxoops.org, frxoops.org, xoopsitalia.org …
All over the same screen, without exception.

    What a stupidity!
If a project is down, all related pages will be down too. Just look at the Xoops local support sites: all is down too.
Hervet has deleted his count at fr.xoops.org, for example.
Well, this is an example of the present how to by Xoops. Look at the Joomla or Drupal home page.

  5. Kommentar von mamba:

Rene, it might, but it doesn’t have to. If you your loyal base in the French or German language, you should not be affected that much by XOOPS.org numbers.

On the other hand, this could be caused not only by less users than before on XOOPS Website, but also by a higher number of Internet users in general, since the number shows: “Percent of global Internet users who visit this site”.

The point is that there is no reason to panic, as things are getting better now, and more people are coming now back to XOOPS.

To our anonymous friend: you have to read correctly the chart! The downfall started in 2006, when Herko and Skalpa were leading the project. Starting end of 2006, XOOPS was in free fall, and since DJ took over the Core team in May 2007, he was not the root-cause of the situation. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the needed support, quite the opposite, since the current ImpressCMS people wanted to take XOOPS over and started all the fights. Only after they left XOOPS in December, the free fall stopped and XOOPS is now coming back - see the chart here:

    http://www.quantcast.com/xoops.org/traffic

As they say, facts are our friends, and both Alexa and Quantcast charts show that after the ImpressCMS crew left in December 2007, the free fall of XOOPS stopped, and the numbers are now coming back.

    Mamba, wake up!
XOOPS is only a Department of a Chinese Company today!
Do you believe that phppp make all XOOPS code? Look at SF, the Core Dev forum is died, the Core Dev Team is dissapeared.
Who paid the host for XOOPS? Come on, don\’t make me laugh

  7. Kommentar von mamba:

Anonimus, you make me laugh! XOOPS is only a Department of a Chinese Company today? Where did you see that? XOOPS is Open Source - if anybody wants the code, regardless of where they are - in China, UK, or Japan - they have it! They don’t need XOOPS website for it!

And I as a XOOPS user, don’t care where this code is coming from. XOOPS was started by people from Japan, then was driven by French-speaking developers, so if now it’s being lead by a Chinese people - who cares? As long as we as XOOPS community benefit from that, I don’t care! This is a global project, with people contributing from around the world, and if it happens that most of the developers are coming from China, Brazil, France, Japan, or some other country, who cares?

The point is that there are right now (11:52 AM EST) 4 people online at ImpressCMS, and on XOOPS there are 228. The charts show that XOOPS is not anymore in a free fall, but has stabilized and the numbers of users are going up.

It will take a lot of work to fix all the damages done to XOOPS by the previous leadership and all the egocentric childish people who’s motto was “my way or I take my toys and go somewhere else”, but as the current numbers show, XOOPS is on the way UP….

  8. Kommentar von anonimus:

Just two notes: over phpp”he didn’t get the needed support”. Not, he didn’t want support. Please, do you think that he is in right and were mistake people as Jenclass, Rabideau, Carnuke, Tom, Skenow, Madfish, Akitson and 30 more names. Just look at the latest post by Jenclass, Tom and Akitson, for example. Most of the people out of Xoops are not in iCMS and iCMS was borned because those people can’t work in Xoops.

“..and if it happens that most of the developers are coming from China, Brazil, France, Japan, or some other country, who cares?”. Please, SF said: Xoops has only ONE developer.
“…and if it happens that most of the developers are coming from China, Brazil, France, Japan, or some other country, who cares?”
Well, if you believe that Xoops hasn’t problem and all runs fine, excelent. Now there isn’t “hot post”, right, because the death is cold. XOOPS is on the way…Xoopsforge=xoopsmorge.

  9. Kommentar von mamba:

Anonimus, I am not interested in getting into a “she said, he said” argument. This is Open Source project, so people are free to go where they want to be.

I just look at the facts, and the fact is that XOOPS was never as friendly as it is now, there are no power struggles anymore as it was for the last couple of years, and the number of users is going up. So this is all good!

Sure, XOOPS has its own problems as any Open Source project, but the releases are coming, and XOOPS is getting better. So any rumors about XOOPS death are highly exaggerated! :)

  10. Kommentar von mamba:

Rene, why don’t you post some positive news about XOOPS, instead of only those undermining XOOPS?

    1) XOOPS selected as Top 3 CMS by Adobe Edge:
    http://www.xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=4195

    2) WOX (World of XOOPS) newsletter is back:
    http://www.xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=4201

    3) The XOOPS ranking on SourceForge is getting better and better (right now around #30 project out of 173,885 Registered Projects).

  11. Kommentar von Rene Sato:

Michael, my signature was without me asking for X changed. Behind my back will only talk bad about me, although I have nothing against Xoops made. You see ImpressCMS than the competition, this is absolute nonsense. It will be any information at X censored, I can not accept that. The development of the system is still not forward. I love the X-system, but at IpmressCMS I feel comfortable. Both the progress of the code, as well as a member of the team. It is a better and pleasant mood. Unfortunately, you also did not understand how a community works. For this reason I leave X. I am also a moderator of myxoops.org some time ago back underfoot. I think deep inside of you, you can preside why I am gone.
I raise a silent protest. I go easy. And, I write not only about bad X.o, there are only facts.
